Xbox Cloud Gaming Introduces Hour Caps as Microsoft Shifts Pricing Strategy
Microsoft has implemented hour caps on its Xbox Cloud Gaming service starting from November 2026. The move affects all Game Pass tiers, including Ultimate, Premium, and Essential. According to Microsoft, only 4% of subscribers will be affected by the new limits.
The hour caps are as follows: 15 hours for Ultimate, 10 hours for Premium, and 5 hours for Essential subscribers. These hours reset monthly and do not carry over to the next billing cycle unless additional hours are purchased separately through the Xbox Store.
Microsoft has framed this change as a 'fairness adjustment' rather than a price hike, stating that it will allow them to better manage server capacity and provide more flexible pricing options for users who need extra cloud gaming time.
