Microsoft has made changes to its age verification system on Xbox, abandoning mandatory document checks for some users. The company started introducing age verification requirements a year ago in the UK and other countries, sparking controversy among gamers who valued their privacy.

The new system uses account tenure to determine whether a user is an adult or not. If a profile has been active for many years, the algorithm automatically assigns it adult status, effectively bypassing manual checks.

However, these changes are not yet global and vary by country. In Australia, for example, document verification remains mandatory due to local legislation.
