Xbox Owners Can Now Digitize Their Physical Game Collections
Microsoft's latest move is aimed at helping gamers digitize their physical game collections. Starting August 31, Xbox Insiders can participate in a disc-to-digital feature that converts supported discs into digital entitlements.
The process involves inserting the disc into an Xbox One or Xbox Series X console, which will then generate a digital license tied to the specific physical media. This license can be transferred if the disc is traded or sold, allowing the new owner to access the game without having to repurchase it.
The feature has been launched with thousands of compatible titles and serves as part of Microsoft's broader push for game preservation. Xbox executives have emphasized the importance of preserving access to purchased games as distribution methods evolve.
