Xbox Rolls Out Disc-To-Digital Feature for Select Consoles
The Xbox disc-to-digital program is finally here for Xbox Insiders on the Series X and One consoles. This opt-in feature allows users to insert disc-based games, receive a digital license, and access their library across both platforms. The program does not apply to all games, with no support for Xbox or 360 titles at this time.
The feature works as expected, starting on August 31st, where users can insert discs to obtain corresponding digital licenses that last until the disc is inserted into another console. This license also extends to the PC version of the game in the Xbox Store.
The lack of support for older consoles and games is disappointing, but Microsoft's efforts in game preservation are a step in the right direction. The company has shown a greater commitment to retro gaming compared to Sony, who abandoned disc backward compatibility on the PS4.
