Xbox to Grant Single Studio Control Over Iconic Gaming Brands

Xbox is considering a major shift in its approach to adapting its gaming franchises for the big screen. Unlike Sony and Sega, which sell individual franchise rights to different film studios, Microsoft wants to grant a large portion of its gaming brands to a single studio.

The potential candidates for acquiring the rights to Halo, Diablo, and World of Warcraft include Netflix, Paramount, and Universal. Any studio interested in this opportunity will have to pay over $300 million for a long-term deal, with one likely partner already expressing interest and enquiring about the cost.

Xbox has several projects in the pipeline for television and the big screen, including an Amazon Prime Video series based on Fallout and a Paramount film adaptation of Call of Duty. However, it is unclear what will happen to the company's existing and future film adaptations of its franchises.
