Xbox Users Can Now Add Physical Games to Digital Library
Microsoft has announced that it will soon allow users to add physical games to their digital Xbox library. This move comes after Sony's decision to end support for physical games entirely.
The feature, which is set to roll out for Xbox Insiders starting August 31, will initially be available for a few thousand titles. Users can 'claim' their physical game on an account, giving them access even when the disc is not in the tray.
This also grants access to the game via Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Cloud Gaming, allowing users to play it from their phone or PC with cloud saves. The physical game will still function as normal after being added to the digital library.
Microsoft's goal is to make it easier for players to move forward with their libraries, which have been built up over decades. This includes games purchased on disc and digitally.
