Xbox's Bleak Future: Layoffs, Studio Closures Loom as Company Struggles to Regain Gamers' Trust
Xbox is facing a grim future with reports of large-scale layoffs and studio closures on the horizon. The Verge reported that Microsoft-owned Xbox could cancel several projects, including the upcoming Marvel Blade game from Arkane Studios. This would be the latest in a series of setbacks for the company.
Arcane joins a list of at least four other Xbox subsidiary studios that may face closure or sale. State of Decay developer Undead Labs is also on the chopping block, and its next game has been in development for years. Other studios, including Compulsion Games, Double Fine, and Ninja Theory, have previously reported facing similar issues.
The problems at Xbox predate a recent leadership change, with Asha Sharma taking over as head executive earlier this year. Sharma's efforts to win back gamers' trust include confirming the existence of Project Helix, a next-gen Xbox console in development.
