YouTube Opens Up to Personalized Alcohol Ads
Google is changing its policy on alcohol ads on YouTube, starting from October 30. The new policy will enable some level of personalization for ads related to alcoholic beverages.
This move comes after years of restrictions on alcohol ads on the platform. Currently, users can opt out of seeing such ads, and no references to alcohol are allowed in banners on the YouTube homepage.
The policy change is attributed to 'customer interest, emerging categories, and improved controls and data protections.' This means that advertisers will be able to target specific audiences with more accuracy, but only where available. In countries like Egypt, India, Indonesia, and Poland, which have stricter regulations on alcohol ads, the new level of personalization will not apply.
The age restriction on alcohol ads remains in place, and advertisers will not be allowed to use a user's health data related to alcohol when targeting them.
