Zoox Expands into Houston, Rolls Out Autonomous Robotaxis
Zoox, an Amazon subsidiary, has announced its expansion into Houston, marking the company's most sprawling market to date. The autonomous electric robotaxi service will begin with a test fleet in downtown, central tourist areas, and select residential neighborhoods.
The company will manually map the city using its retrofitted test fleet before progressing to autonomous testing. Once mapping and initial testing are complete, Zoox plans to deploy its driverless robotaxis, laying the groundwork for a future ride-hailing service.
Houston is one of two new markets announced by Zoox, with San Diego also being targeted. The company operates in 12 locations across the US, including Austin and Dallas in Texas.
