The price of oil has surged past $100 a barrel after attacks on Middle Eastern oil facilities and ships threatened to disrupt an already strained supply chain.

Brent crude, the international standard, jumped nearly 3% to $100.72 early Wednesday, marking the first time it had reached this level in almost six weeks.
