Oil prices surged on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) as West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude broke through the $100-per-barrel threshold. The October WTI contract settled at $102.48 per barrel, a gain of $6.43 (6.69%) from the previous session. This marks the highest level in roughly four months.

The rally was driven by escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and growing anxiety over energy supply disruptions. Market participants grew increasingly pessimistic about near-term normalization between the U.S. and Iran, accelerating buying momentum. Tim Snyder of Matador Economics noted, 'We're concerned that things will get worse before they get better.'

The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined for a fourth consecutive session, with notable weakness in semiconductor stocks led by Micron Technology and Intel. The Nasdaq Composite also fell 171.615 points (0.65%) to close at 26,081.725.

Gold futures on the COMEX division of the NYMEX settled at $4,407.3 per troy ounce, down $53.4 (1.2%) from the previous session. Rising interest rates and persistent inflationary pressures pushed the benchmark 10-year Treasury yield up 0.11 percentage points intraday to 4.95%.
