$2-Billion LNG Expansion Moves Ahead in Metro Vancouver Amid Economic Reconciliation Push
A major expansion of the Tilbury LNG Facility in Metro Vancouver is moving ahead after the British Columbia government removed a key regulatory requirement for the project.
The $2-billion Phase 1B expansion, proposed by FortisBC, would increase the amount of liquefied natural gas produced at the facility and allow the company to supply more fuel to commercial ships traveling through the Port of Vancouver.
The provincial government estimates that construction of the expansion would contribute over $800 million to B.C.'s GDP and support an average of approximately 1,100 jobs annually over four years.
FortisBC will still need to obtain all other required permits and regulatory approvals before construction can begin, with work potentially starting as early as mid-2027 and the expanded facility entering service in 2031.
