$4.6 Million Grant for Indigenous-Led Water Treatment Research in Alberta Oilsands
Tũ Nipi Water Solutions has been offered a conditional approval of $4.6 million from Emissions Reduction Alberta to fund Indigenous-led research and development of water-treatment solutions for tailings ponds in the oilsands region.
The grant, if approved, is expected to rollout in early 2027, to facilitate large closed-lab testing.
Tũ Nipi's CEO, Ron Quintal, emphasized that the venture aims to implement proactive approaches to address water safety concerns for Indigenous communities, bringing 'advanced water treatment technology and science' from cleantech provider BioLargo Canada.
Quintal stated that Tũ Nipi is not looking to double down on proposed treat-and-release solutions to existing wastewater concerns.
