50 Iranian Oil Tankers Stranded Due to US Blockade
At least 50 Iranian oil tankers are stranded near the country's coast due to a US blockade, with additional vessels waiting off Sri Lanka. According to United Against Nuclear Iran, these tankers carry crude oil, petroleum products, and liquefied petroleum gas. The blockade has also led to empty tankers anchoring in the Indian and Pacific oceans instead of returning to Iranian ports.
Twenty Iranian-flagged vessels are positioned off Sri Lanka, while another is near Oman. Near Khark Island, a key Iranian oil export terminal, 11 loaded tankers are anchored east of the island, with five more to the south. The situation has seen little change over the past two months, indicating ongoing difficulties for these vessels to complete their voyages.
The prolonged disruption highlights the continued impact of the US blockade on Iranian oil and energy product movements. Both loaded and empty vessels remain offshore, awaiting resolution to the blockade.
