$54B Alaska LNG Investment Hinges on Korean Commitment
A proposed $54 billion Alaska LNG investment announced by President Donald Trump could move the project forward in Nikiski, but South Korea says it has not decided whether to invest or how much money it would provide.
The proposal calls for a pipeline carrying North Slope natural gas to the Kenai Peninsula, where it would be chilled into liquefied natural gas and shipped overseas. The Nikiski export plant would be the southern end of an estimated $44.5 billion to $54.5 billion project.
Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Peter Micciche told lawmakers in June that 42.7% of the project's value would be located in the borough, where a reroute of the existing Kenai Spur Highway is planned due to construction requirements.
