$54B LNG Investment in Nikiski Uncertain Amid South Korea's Hesitation
A proposed $54 billion Alaska LNG investment could help move the project forward in Nikiski, but South Korea says it has not decided whether to invest or how much money it would provide.
The proposal calls for an 807-mile pipeline carrying North Slope natural gas to the Kenai Peninsula, where it would be chilled into liquefied natural gas and shipped to overseas markets.
The project's total cost is estimated between $44.5 billion and $54.5 billion, with the Nikiski export plant being the southern end of the development.
Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Peter Micciche told state lawmakers in June that 42.7% of the project's value would be located in the borough, with the proposed Nikiski site covering about 900 acres and costing between $23.6 billion and $28.4 billion to develop.
