$6.387: LA Gas Prices Climb After 39 Straight Days
The average price of gasoline in Los Angeles County has reached $6.387 per gallon, a new high since October 10, 2022. According to figures from the American Automobile Association and the Oil Price Information Service, this marks the 39th consecutive daily rise, with a total increase of 74.5 cents over this period.
The current price is $1.665 higher than one year ago, and $1.693 since the joint US-Israel war on Iran began on February 28. The conflict has been cited as a major contributor to rising oil prices, with lingering volatility in the Strait of Hormuz also driving up pump prices.
California's refining capacity has decreased due to the shutdown of Phillips 66's Los Angeles refinery in October 2025 and Valero's Benicia refinery in April 2026. Gary Simmons, Valero's executive vice president and chief operating officer, noted that 'the conflict in Iran has really created a market with demand significantly outpacing supply.'
