$8 Billion Loan Sought by Saudi Arabia Amid Ongoing Conflict Disruptions
Saudi Arabia is seeking to raise at least $8 billion through a new loan, as the country grapples with the economic fallout from ongoing conflicts in the region. The National Debt Management Center (NDMC), part of the finance ministry, has begun quietly gauging bank interest for the fresh funding.
The potential transaction is still preliminary and may not go ahead, but it highlights the kingdom's need to secure additional cash amidst rising costs and tightened supply chains due to the war. Benchmark Brent crude prices have averaged about $87 a barrel so far this year, providing some relief on the state's budget, but Saudi Arabia posted a second-quarter deficit of 34.3 billion riyals ($9.1 billion).
This move is part of a broader funding pivot for Saudi Arabia, which has emerged as one of the most active in emerging markets this year. The kingdom has secured around $6 billion through bond sales at home and abroad, and Aramco has added a further $4 billion.
