Aadhaar Authentication Mandatory for Subsidized LPG from Oct 2026
The Indian government has announced that from October 1, 2026, domestic consumers of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) will need to complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) to qualify for subsidized LPG refills. This move aims to prevent diversion of subsidized cylinders for commercial and industrial use, as well as identify duplicate and ineligible connections.
The government has linked each LPG connection with an Aadhaar-authenticated consumer. Consumers who have already completed BAA will not need to repeat the process, while those who haven't will be able to complete it through multiple channels, including authentication during delivery or using their oil marketing company's mobile app.
Consumers who don't complete BAA by October 1 will still receive LPG at market price, without subsidy. The government has estimated that the implicit subsidy on an LPG cylinder is around Rs 210 in September 2026 and Rs 721 in June 2026.
