Accelerated Corn Planting in Argentina Weighs on Spot Prices
The Buenos Aires Grain Exchange (BAGE) has reported that Argentine corn planting for the 2026/27 season is accelerating, with 11.1% of the planned area already planted as of September 16.
This marks a significant increase from the previous week's 5.5%, indicating a strong start to the new crop year.
Argentina is a major global corn exporter, and the accelerated planting for the upcoming season suggests ample future supply, which could put downward pressure on spot prices.
In the futures market, the benchmark corn contract (C2611) on the Dalian Commodity Exchange closed at 2,185 RMB/tonne on September 18, down 14 RMB/tonne from the previous trading day due to strong short-selling interest.
