Adam Henson's Farm Fears: Drought Hits Arable Yields
Countryfile presenter Adam Henson has shared his struggles as an arable farmer in the Cotswolds, citing three years of difficult conditions. The prolonged drought has significantly impacted this year's harvest, with cereal yields below the 10-year average.
Henson highlighted that due to the dry weather and thin soil, yields may not be good. He specifically mentioned a yield reduction of about one to two tons per hectare for winter wheat and barley compared to previous years.
The reduced yields have coincided with lower grain prices, making it challenging for farmers like Henson to make a profit. He noted that the profitability of his farm is significantly hit by these factors.
