Diyarbakır Emerges as Türkiye's New Oil Frontier
Türkiye has made a significant breakthrough in its domestic energy strategy with the extraction of shale oil in Diyarbakır, southeastern Türkiye. The operation was carried out at a depth of approximately 4,000 meters and used modern technologies and methods to extract high-quality oil.
The quality of the shale oil is comparable to that of oil extracted in Middle Eastern countries, according to officials. Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) continues working around the clock in an area where peace and security have been established.
Shale oil is being extracted at a field located between Bismil and Silvan in Diyarbakır, which was once difficult to access due to unrest and security concerns. Drilling for oil is also being carried out in rural areas of Diyarbakır's Sur district.
