ADNOC has secured a major long-term deal to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to India, marking a significant expansion of its global LNG portfolio. The Abu Dhabi-based state energy giant signed a ten-year agreement with Gujarat Energy Ltd to deliver up to 4 million tons of LNG starting in 2028. This is ADNOC’s fifth LNG supply agreement in India and a key milestone for XRG, its international investment company, as it evolves into a globally integrated gas and LNG business.
The deal connects XRG-owned supply sources outside the Persian Gulf with demand in India through ADNOC’s global LNG marketing and trading platform. Avantika Singh Aulakh, Managing Director of Gujarat Energy, highlighted the role of natural gas in India’s transition to cleaner energy, emphasizing its benefits for industrial efficiency, household cooking, and eco-friendly transportation.
ADNOC has been rapidly expanding its LNG business, recently launching a global marketing and trading platform that combines the operations of ADNOC Gas, XRG, and ADNOC Trading. Earlier this week, ADNOC Gas signed another deal to supply up to 1.6 million tons of LNG to TotalEnergies over five years, with deliveries beginning this year. Despite recent constraints on LNG flows through the Strait of Hormuz, the UAE remains optimistic about long-term global LNG demand.
The UAE is also developing the Ruwais LNG project in Abu Dhabi, which will have a production capacity of 9.6 million tons per annum. Most of this capacity has already been committed to international buyers in Asia and Europe through long-term agreements.
