Adriatic LNG Steps Up as Italy's Third-Largest Gas Importer Amid Global Disruptions

Adriatic LNG played a crucial role in Italy's energy security during the first half of 2026, covering 14% of the country's gas demand and more than 40% of its national LNG imports. The terminal delivered 4.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas into Italy's national grid, matching its performance from the previous year despite a disruption in Qatari LNG shipments due to tensions in the Persian Gulf.

The temporary interruption of Qatar's LNG flows through the Strait of Hormuz was offset by an increase in US cargoes arriving at Adriatic LNG. In total, 28 LNG carriers came from the United States, while only 13 arrived from Qatar, a significant shift in supply origins that underscores the terminal's operational flexibility.

The figures released alongside the terminal's operational results also highlight its commitment to sustainability and safety. The company reported zero employee injuries and no environmental incidents or events affecting plant integrity over the past year, with more than 37,000 hours of maintenance and capacity upgrade work completed without a single recorded injury.
