African Gas Infrastructure Investment Lacking, Ghana's CEO Warns
Judith Adjobah Blay, CEO of Ghana National Gas Company Limited, emphasized the need for increased investment in African gas infrastructure to unlock the continent's natural gas resources. Speaking at Africa Oil Week (AOW) 2026, she noted that Africa has significant gas reserves but limited impact on development without adequate infrastructure.
Bridging the gap between gas supply and demand requires deliberate investments in infrastructure and stronger collaboration among African countries and industry stakeholders, Blay said. She called for partnerships among governments, national oil and gas companies, private investors, and development institutions to mobilize capital for expanding gas infrastructure across Africa.
The Ghana Gas CEO highlighted the importance of developing midstream gas infrastructure, which connects gas production to markets, industries, and power generation. This would improve access to energy, support industrialization, strengthen energy security, and create sustainable economic opportunities.
