Explosions were reported near Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf on September 5, 2026. The island is home to a key oil terminal and is a major hub for Iranian oil exports.

The semi-official Fars news agency reported that explosions were heard from the Persian Gulf, but there were no visible signs of smoke. The origin of the explosions remains unknown.

Nurnews, a state-affiliated media outlet, said unconfirmed reports indicated an Iranian tanker near Harg Island was hit by a missile fired by US forces. The Asr Iran news portal reported that the tanker was allegedly hit by four missiles and was in the process of being unloaded.
