Aker BP's Skarv Satellites Project Comes Online Ahead of Schedule
Norway's Aker BP has begun production from three new fields in its Skarv Satellites project, a major oil and gas development in the Norwegian Sea. This milestone marks a significant achievement for the company, as it has brought the new fields online a year ahead of schedule. The Skarv Satellites project includes the Alve Nord, Idun Nord, and Ørn fields, which are connected to the existing Skarv floating production, storage, and offloading vessel (FPSO). This efficient use of existing infrastructure has allowed the project to achieve a low carbon footprint of approximately 4.5 kilograms of CO₂ per barrel of oil equivalent.
The Skarv Satellites project represents around 120 million barrels of recoverable resources and is expected to support further value creation by increasing flexibility and extending the life of infrastructure in the area. The total investment cost for the three separate fields within the project was estimated at approximately NOK 17 billion, or around €1.56 billion.
Aker BP's CEO Karl Johnny Hersvik said that the start-up of the Skarv Satellites projects is an important milestone for the company, strengthening one of its most important production areas and generating significant value in the years to come.
