Akwa Ibom Edges Closer to Having Local CNG Supply Hub
Akwa Ibom State is moving closer to having its own supply hub for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as Nsik Oil & Gas Company Limited receives critical equipment for a planned 10 million standard cubic feet per day (10 MMSCF/D) CNG mother station in Esit Eket Local Government Area.
The facility, located at Uquo Isi Edoho, is designed not only to compress gas but also serve as the supply point for a network of stations planned across Akwa Ibom. This development could provide an important connection between the state's growing demand for CNG-powered vehicles and the gas required to keep them operating.
The equipment, manufactured by China-based Original Equipment Manufacturer CIMC, includes four reciprocating compressors, dehydration and filtration systems, heat exchangers, and four generating sets. The facility is strategically located near existing gas infrastructure and is expected to obtain its gas feedstock from nearby facilities.
NSik Oil & Gas Company Limited's project consultant, Mkposong Asuquo, said the equipment had been cleared and transported directly to the site after a successful Factory Acceptance Test in China involving the project team and regulators from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
