Alberta Economy Surges Ahead Despite Global Instability
Alberta's economy continues to outperform Canada's, despite global instability and trade uncertainty. According to ATB Financial's latest Economic Outlook, Alberta is expected to grow by 2.6 per cent in 2026, while the national average projects a growth of only 0.9 per cent.
The province's resilient energy sector is driving this growth, with increased production and higher crude prices contributing to its expansion. However, ATB Financial maintains a cautious forecast on investment until final decisions are made on new West Coast pipeline and oil sands projects.
Mark Parsons, Vice President and Chief Economist at ATB Financial, noted that while Alberta's economy is 'faring relatively well given the geopolitical circumstances,' higher living costs continue to put pressure on households, and global instability adds a layer of uncertainty for businesses.
