Alberta Natural Gas Rates Rise to $1.729 per GJ in August

Direct Energy Regulated Services has announced the default natural gas rates for August 2026 in Alberta, Canada. These rates will apply to customers who have not chosen a competitive supplier within the ATCO Gas North and South service territories.

The regulated rate for August is $1.729 per GJ, which represents an increase from the July rate of $1.595 per GJ.

According to Direct Energy, the rate reflects a market price for August supplies of approximately $1.509 per GJ as reported by the NGX and incorporates an adjustment of $0.22 per GJ for July and prior months.

The company has provided average bill amounts based on consumption levels. For customers in the North territory (living in and north of Red Deer), a typical residential gas bill for August would be approximately $66, based on 2 GJ of consumption. In contrast, customers in the South territory (south of Red Deer) can expect a typical bill of around $52.
