Alberta, Ottawa, and Oilsands Producers Sign Agreement to Advance Pathways Project

The Pathways project has taken a major step forward as the Alberta government, Ottawa, and five major oilsands producers have signed a memorandum of understanding to advance the multibillion-dollar carbon capture and storage project.

The agreement is a condition for the approval of a new West Coast oilsands pipeline. In support of this effort, the federal government has committed to extending investment tax credits for various carbon capture equipment until 2035.

Alberta says it will finalize its own incentive program for carbon capture soon. The Pathways project would proceed in stages with a completion date set at January 1, 2035.
