Alberta-Ottawa Deal Aims to Streamline Project Reviews
A new agreement between Alberta and Ottawa aims to streamline project reviews for major projects like oil sands, pipelines, and carbon capture.
The deal follows recent provincial legislation that ensures qualified projects receive approvals within 120 days.
According to Brad Gilmour, partner at Osler's Calgary office, the agreement reduces duplication without compromising environmental protection.
Gilmour noted that Alberta will take the lead in environmental assessments for projects primarily regulated by the province, allowing the province to focus on areas where it has expertise.
