Albertan Woman Seeks Independence After Years of Fighting Against Systemic Issues

Vicky Bayford, a resident of Innisfail, Alberta, has been an advocate for separatism in her province since 2015. She recalls being rejected from social assistance when she was 19 and pregnant, receiving only bus tickets instead of financial support. This experience shaped her view on the importance of self-sufficiency and accountability.

Bayford's older son struggled with behavioral issues at school, while her younger son was labeled as having ADHD after a psychological test. However, Bayford believes that both children needed discipline and learning strategies rather than medication or accommodation. She eventually had to fight against the system to ensure their success.

The oil and gas industry where Bayford works has also undergone significant changes, shifting from community-focused policies to global warming and CO2 emissions regulations. She argues that these policies have burdened her industry with excessive regulations without substantially changing production practices.
