Alfa Laval Merges Desmet to Expand Oils and Biofuel Technologies
Alfa Laval has initiated the phased integration of Desmet, a move designed to strengthen its position in the oils, fats, and biofuel sectors. The company acquired Desmet in 2022, along with the operating units of RoseDowns and Stolz, but the brand has operated independently since then. This integration, set for completion by July 2027, will position Desmet as a product and process technology brand within Alfa Laval.
The merged portfolio will cover the entire technology value chain, from seed to finished product, combining Desmet's expertise in upstream extraction and processing with Alfa Laval's strengths in separation, heat transfer, and downstream processing. Sammy Hulpiau, President of the Food & Pharma Division, highlighted that this integration will provide customers with more comprehensive solutions, accelerate innovation, and create greater value throughout the process. The specialist know-how and customer relationships associated with Desmet will be preserved.
Alfa Laval expects the expanded portfolio to offer customers integrated engineered solutions from a single partner, simplifying project execution and reducing complexity. The integration will proceed in stages to ensure continuity for existing customers, partners, and ongoing projects. Desmet will operate within Alfa Laval's Business Unit Process Engineering Solutions in the Food & Pharma Division, supported by the group's global sales, service, and supply network covering over 150 countries.
