Algeria-Bangladesh LNG Talks Heat Up Amid Energy Diversification Bid
Bangladesh is exploring a potential short-term deal to import around 10 annual cargoes of Algerian liquefied natural gas as it seeks to diversify its supplies and secure additional energy sources.
The negotiations, which remain at an early stage, are between Bangladesh and Algeria over the commercial and logistical terms of a possible deal, including pricing, delivery schedules, volumes, and shipping conditions.
Algeria is assessing the economic viability of directing part of its LNG exports to Bangladesh, particularly in light of freight costs, proposed prices, and margins. A potential agreement is expected to be short-term, with a final decision unlikely before the end of 2026 as the parties continue to assess the economics of the trade.
The discussions follow a September 10, 2026 videoconference between Algerian Hydrocarbons Minister Mohamed Arkab and Bangladesh’s Minister of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hassan Mahmood, focused on expanding energy cooperation and the possibility of concluding an LNG supply agreement.
