Alunorte Cuts Production Amid Gas Supply Disruptions
Norsk Hydro's Alunorte refinery has reduced its alumina production to 50% due to disruptions in natural gas supply. The refinery, located in Brazil, has been informed by its supplier, CELBA, of difficulties in meeting the necessary gas volumes.
Celba is part of the New Fortress Group and owns the gas terminal infrastructure in Barcarena, Pará. To mitigate operational impacts, Alunorte has implemented contingency measures, including purchasing spot gas volumes and requesting direct access to the Barcarena LNG receiving and regasification terminal.
The refinery will ramp up production as soon as gas availability normalizes. In the meantime, Alunorte is seeking alternative long-term gas supplies while preserving its rights under the Gas Supply Agreement.
