Amit Shah to Launch Major Railway Projects in Gujarat with India's First LNG-Powered Train

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will launch several railway projects in Gujarat on September 27. The projects, valued at over Rs 1,542 crore, aim to strengthen railway safety, increase operational capacity, and promote environmentally friendly transportation infrastructure in the state.

The initiatives include the inauguration of the WAG-12 Sabarmati locomotive maintenance shed, which will service 300 high-horsepower electric locomotives. The shed was built at an estimated cost of Rs 700 crore. The automatic block signalling system has been introduced on 122.57 kilometres between the Sabarmati-Kalol-Bhandu Motidau and Sabarmati-Sanand-Jakhwada sections, facilitating safe distances between trains and increasing route capacity.

The event will also mark the flagging off of India's first LNG-powered train. The initiative is expected to reduce fuel costs by replacing nearly 40 per cent of diesel consumption with liquefied natural gas. This move supports cleaner and more sustainable railway operations.
