Aqaba Gas Projects Launched to Cut Industry Energy Costs
Prime Minister Jafar Hassan inaugurated two natural gas stations in Aqaba, Jordan to reduce industrial energy costs by 35-60%. The projects are part of the government's strategy to strengthen energy security and enhance competitiveness. The first station, built at a cost of approximately JD8 million, has an initial capacity of 30,000 cubic meters per day that can be expanded to 90,000 cubic meters per day.
The second station was completed in about 10 months at a cost of JD3.5 million, several months ahead of the original 18-month construction schedule. The prime minister also laid the foundation stone for an onshore gasification unit project, which will convert liquefied natural gas into gaseous form and store it through pipelines.
The project is expected to be completed by the middle of next year with a capacity of up to 700 million cubic feet per day. The onshore gasification unit will serve as a strategic alternative to floating storage and regasification units, expanding Jordan's energy infrastructure and increasing strategic reserves.
