Pakistan Maintains Existing Oil Prices Amid Public Criticism
The Pakistani government has faced criticism for its handling of oil prices after implementing daily reviews. Despite public outcry, it maintained existing rates for two days - July 26-27.
The price of petrol stood at Rs 335.18 per litre and diesel Rs 383.46 per litre on Saturday. The government had increased the prices by Rs 3.66 per litre for petrol and Rs 7.83 per litre for high-speed diesel the previous day.
International benchmark Brent crude was being traded at around US$96.78 per barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) price stood at US$89.31 per barrel on July 25, 2026. The government has been collecting Rs 1.7 trillion from oil consumers through the petroleum levy.
The consumers use high-speed diesel widely in the transport and agriculture sectors, while petrol is used in motorbikes and cars.
