Aramco Redraws Business Map with New Gas Division
Saudi Aramco is planning to create a new gas division as part of a business reorganization. The move would give the company three main divisions: upstream, downstream, and gas, with each unit led by its own president. This new gas division will focus on developing natural gas resources in Saudi Arabia and building a liquefied natural gas (LNG) portfolio overseas.
The company's Jafurah field is central to its domestic gas strategy, with production expected to generate electricity equivalent to displacing 500,000 barrels per day of crude at peak. Aramco has been seeking outside capital as Saudi Arabia works to reduce its reliance on oil. A lease-and-leaseback agreement for the Jafurah gas processing facilities was signed in August 2025, with a consortium led by Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) holding a majority stake.
