Arctic LNG 2 Defies Sanctions with Record Gas Production

Russia's Arctic LNG 2 has doubled its daily gas production despite facing American sanctions. In July and August, the enterprise produced over 27 million cubic meters of gas per day, which is approximately twice the level of August 2025.

This sharp increase in production coincided with an increase in product exports: in each of the two summer months, LNG exports from the project exceeded 500 thousand tons, setting a new maximum.

The key limitation for Arctic LNG 2 after the introduction of sanctions was not only sales but also maritime logistics. The expansion of the available fleet allowed for an increase in LNG shipments to China, which remains the sole buyer of the project's products.

Arctic LNG 2 fell under blocking US sanctions in 2023, after which the project faced problems with gas carriers, financing, and product sales.
