Arctic LNG 2 Defies Sanctions with Record Production Surge

Novatek's Arctic LNG 2 project in Siberia has seen a record increase in production, despite Western sanctions. According to Bloomberg, gas production at the plant exceeded 27 million cubic meters per day in July and August, nearly double the average for August 2025.

This surge in production likely indicates a rise in liquefied natural gas (LNG) output, with exports reaching record monthly levels of over 500,000 metric tons in July and August. This amounts to approximately 700 million cubic meters per month.

The project also has more tankers available for shipments to China, the main buyer amid sanctions. At least 20 vessels, most of which are part of a 'shadow fleet', are now used for LNG exports. As of December 2025, there were only 11 such vessels.
