Armed Group Disrupts Libyan Oil Production with Pipeline Seizure
An armed group in Libya has disrupted oil production by seizing control of a crucial pipeline valve.
The National Oil Corporation (NOC) reported on Monday that the group closed the valve on the crude oil pipeline linking the Sharara oil field to the western port of Zawiya, causing a sharp decline in production at the country's main oil field.
Sharara is Libya's largest oil field, with a production capacity of around 340,000 barrels per day. The NOC warned that a prolonged shutdown would not only halt production but also expose the oil transportation system and related facilities to technical and operational risks.
The Petroleum Facilities Guard's technical teams were unable to reach the area around the pipeline due to the ongoing situation, adding to the urgency of resolving the issue.
