Asia Leads Global Markets Higher Amid Easing Fed Rate Hopes
Overseas markets opened Monday with a positive tone, as major indexes in Japan, China, and Hong Kong advanced. The Shanghai Composite gained 1.41%, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 1.34%. However, Australia moved in the opposite direction, and Indian equities declined due to high crude oil prices and the ongoing Middle East conflict.
The mixed but moderately constructive global backdrop ahead of Monday's Wall Street session was influenced by lower expectations for a Federal Reserve rate hike. This supported equities, gold, and other risk-sensitive assets. However, energy prices remain a key threat to the inflation outlook.
Japan's Nikkei 225 gained 0.74% to 69,220.25, while India's Nifty 50 fell 0.32%. The Indian stock market was heading towards its fifth consecutive declining session, primarily due to the impact of oil prices on import costs and inflation.
Crude oil remains a significant variable for global financial markets, with prices moving higher Monday as diplomatic efforts to resolve the Middle East conflict showed little progress.
