Asian Markets Mixed After Trump's Comments on Iran Meeting
Asian stock markets were mixed on Wednesday after Wall Street held near its record high. President Donald Trump's comments that US and Iranian officials had a 'very good' meeting at the UN contributed to this mixed reaction.
The Shanghai Composite index slid 0.4% to 3,938.08, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng lost 0.8% to 24,896.04. In contrast, Taiwan's Taiex was 0.6% higher.
Tech stocks in Asia were volatile on Wednesday but some traded higher after US tech shares gained. Samsung Electronics rose 2.6%, while South Korean memory chipmaker SK Hynix added 0.4%. Shares of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., or TSMC, was up 1.2%.
Oil prices fell and remained below $100 a barrel on Tuesday after Trump's threat during his address to the annual UN gathering that the US might 'annihilate' the Islamic Republic if a deal couldn't be made.
