Asian Markets Surge on US Rally and Falling Oil Prices
The Asian markets experienced a surge in early Friday trading, boosted by a rally on Wall Street and declining oil prices.
Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 saw a 1.9% gain to 65,332.57 after the Bank of Japan raised its benchmark interest rate to 1.25% from 1.0%, marking a 31-year high.
The move was expected as it followed the Federal Reserve's decision to raise its key rate this week amid pressure from the US to address concerns over the weakening yen, which has seen recent intervention efforts by both countries.
The US dollar rose to 157.11 Japanese yen from 155.95 yen, while the euro cost USD 1.1487, up from USD 1.1480.
