Asian Shares Mixed as Wall Street Rally Continues
Asian shares were mixed on Tuesday following a rally on Wall Street, where easing oil prices helped calm concerns over inflation. The Nikkei 225 slipped 0.6% to 63,369.85, while South Korea's Kospi fell less than 0.1%. However, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 added 1.2% to 9,128.60.
The yen inched up against the US dollar, trading at 157.63 Japanese yen from 157.18 yen earlier. The euro remained relatively stable at $1.1511, while Brent crude rose 63 cents to $84.40 a barrel. Analysts noted that the recent joint U.S.-Japan currency intervention may not address the fundamental economic reasons behind currency fluctuations.
Matthew Ryan of Ebury stated that the latest effort 'appears to signal a real change in monetary policy rather than just a one-time defensive move.' This development is seen as an improvement for confidence in the yen. The S&P 500 jumped 1.5% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 693 points or 1.3% on Monday.
