Kazakhstan Grains Flood Afghan Markets Amid Pakistan Trade Disruptions
Kazakhstan has significantly increased its grain exports to Afghanistan over the past year. According to Kazakhstan's Ministry of Agriculture, the country exported 2.4 million tonnes of grain to Afghanistan from September last year until now, representing a 57% increase compared with the same period a year earlier.
The growth in grain exports is attributed to changes in Afghanistan's trade patterns after disruptions affected key commercial routes with Pakistan in October last year. Afghan traders have increasingly turned to alternative supply channels through Central Asia and Iranian ports to import essential goods, including food products and fuel.
Kazakhstan's agricultural sector has significant export capacity, with the country producing large quantities of wheat and other cereals. Officials estimate Kazakhstan can export around 13 million tonnes of grain annually to international markets.
