Asian Shares Surge on US Rally and Falling Oil Prices
Tokyo saw Asian shares mostly rise on Friday, bolstered by a rally on Wall Street and declining oil prices. The US market was set to increase, with Dow futures up 0.2% to 52,299.00.
Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 rose 1.4% after the Bank of Japan raised its benchmark interest rate to 1.25%, a 31-year high. The move had been widely anticipated following the Federal Reserve's key rate hike earlier in the week.
The weaker yen has put pressure on Japan to raise rates, and recent joint intervention with the US has not had a significant impact.
