Asian Summer Heat Fuels Record-Low LNG Supplies

South Asian countries India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan are experiencing rising demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG) due to intense summer heat. According to Kpler's LNG & Natural Gas S&D product, these economies require precise data on supply and demand to make informed decisions.

Kpler has updated its forecasts for India, raising its July 2026 LNG demand forecast in response to the country's hot weather outlook. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts below-normal rainfall alongside above-normal temperatures across most of the country, driving stronger gas-fired power generation and increased cooling demand.

Similarly, Kpler has raised its full-year 2026 Bangladesh LNG demand forecast, reflecting both stronger April demand data and an updated weather outlook. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) forecasts above-normal maximum and minimum temperatures for July through September, leading to higher cooling demand and increased LNG procurement requirements.

For Pakistan, Kpler's S&D product provides sectoral visibility into the country's power generation mix, showing a shortfall in nuclear availability driving up gas-fired power demand. While weaker nuclear output raises the call on gas-fired power, stronger coal generation and seasonal hydro recovery are expected to absorb much of the additional thermal load.

Kpler's data suggests that Asian LNG balances are tightening, with spot prices likely to remain supported through Q3 due to firming demand and constrained supply.
